PERSONAL INFORMATION
It is my intention to NOT print any home addresses, email addresses or telephone numbers on this blog. Except for my own, of course. Please feel free to call me or email me if you have any comments or anything to add to the blog. I probably will not get a lot more added until I get back to Arizona around the first of October. I have a mail drop that I use while we are travelling but I will have a new address when we get to Arizona and I will give it to anyone who wants it at that time. In the meantime please call me (231) 740-9723 or email me: Tops4u2luv@aol.com if you would like. We will be in Coldwater until Monday morning the 22nd of September...Thanks, Butch
Judy Perkins (Evelyn Angeline Kyser) Born 04 March 1924 in Jonesville, Hillsdale County, Michigan
On the Air, WMKV 89.3 FM, 11100 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45246Salute to Our 50+ Year Veteran BroadcastersJUDY PERKINSIt was 62 years ago when Judy began her broadcasting career. She lived in Michigan and started to sing years earlier when she was about six or seven. At 16, Judy entered a talent contest in her area sponsored by WLS in Chicago. She won and went to Chicago to sing on one of their talent shows. In 1942 she got a job at WFIN in Findlay, Ohio, and at no pay, she adds! She worked at WIBC in Indianapolis, KXEL in Waterloo, Iowa, WKRC in Cincinnati, KMOX in St. Louis, and WLAC in Nashville. She had her own program there, as well as a year of appearances on the Eddie Arnold "Checkerboard Jamboree" on the Mutual Network. She was offered a job at WLW in 1948. There were a lot of "firsts" at WLW, such as The "Midwesteren Hayride" in the fall of 1948. Kenny Roberts and Judy originated the first kids show "T.V. Rangers: in 1949 and 1950. Then it was on to early morning shows, Everybody's Farm, The Hayride on radio and T.V. and endless other programs. She made many hundreds of personal appearances at county and state fairs, high school gyms, armories and theaters throughout the tri-state area and still did all of the radio and T.V. shows. In 1950 Ruth Lyons chose to give up one of her programs, "Morning Matinee" heard on both T.V. and radio. Ernie Lee, a popular entertainer, and Judy were asked to continue it, and for two years they assumed most of the Ruth Lyons' Christmas Fund work. When NBC originated the "Today Show" in their time slot, "Morning Matinee" disappeared from the air. When Judy left WLW, she worked for years at WMOH in Hamilton as Director of Women's Affairs. Through all those and other years, she met and interviewed entertainers, politicians, local officials, and community leaders, as well as listeners. When she became a resident of Maple Knoll, it gave her an opportunity to participate in WMKV programming with people she had worked with at WLW. She says it is a privilege to be a part of this great radio station offering music so many people love!
